Programmer / Web Developer
Ascenttra is hiring a full-time experienced full-stack web developer / programmer. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of our internal software tools and our cloud hosting environment. Salary range is $55,000-$80,000 per year depending upon demonstrated skills and experience. Ascenttra provides high quality subject matter expertise in all-hazard preparedness training and exercises to our government and private sector clients. We are experts in the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program curriculum and guidance to create custom preparedness training and exercises that are valuable to our clients. Ascenttra operates globally with past performance in 47 states, Puerto Rico, United States Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia, and 47 countries worldwide. In 2023, Ascenttra designed, developed, conducted, and evaluated about 100 customized training or exercise events around the world.
Ascenttra is a remote "work from anywhere" company. All employees are expected to work from home or other suitable place and provide their own Microsoft Windows computer, Microsoft Office, fast internet connection, and a cell phone. Ascenttra has 15 employees and 35 part-time associates who live throughout the United States. The programmer position requires working during core "business hours" in the Eastern timezone.
This position REQUIRES the following skills or knowledge:
- Javascript, JQuery, AJAX
- React.js framework
- Real time application knowledge (e.g., websockets)
- Node.js and database knowledge MSSQL, T-SQL, MySQL
- Mobile frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap)
- Cloud hosting setup and knowledge (prefer Google Cloud, but will consider any)
- Algorithm development
- Code testing and debugging
The following skills are desired but not required:
- ColdFusion
- Computer Science Degree
- Google Maps API 3.0
This position REQUIRES the following administrative requirements:
- United States citizenship.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products on the Windows platform including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Extreme attention to detail and strong work ethic.
- Ability to react and change requirements quickly.
- Dedication to customer satisfaction.
- Dedicated area for remote-based office with fast and reliable Internet connection.
- Cell phone and current computer with Windows 10 (or later), webcam, microphone, and a licensed copy of Microsoft Office.
- Signing of a non-disclosure agreement and agreement of Ascenttra's code of conduct (will be provided for review if you are selected for an interview.)
- Submitting to a background and credit check.
- COVID-19 vaccination (required by most of our government clients.)
Other nice to have but not required:
- Public speaking ability with clear oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel up to 5% total with occasional travel required on a weekend to support client projects.
- Graphic design or graphic creation experience.
Ascenttra has the following benefits:

"Unlimited" leave for full-time salaried staff. Ascenttra does not track leave or how many hours per day you work. You are expected however to immediately (within reason) respond to staff and clients during east-coast business hours through our communication mechanisms and deliver your work on time with minimal mistakes unless you have marked yourself "unavailable".

Ascenttra is a true remote organization - you are welcome to work at home, on the porch, next to the pool, or on your sailboat (assuming inside the United States) - providing that you maintain a professional appearance during video conference calls and maintain east coast business hours' response as directed previously.
